Liposuction

Understanding Liposuction

Liposuction is a standard fat-removal procedure used in plastic surgery. Using a multi-angled approach, our Pinnacle team can remove unwanted fat while tightening the skin to provide a more chiseled appearance. Popular target areas include under the chin or submental area, chest, abdomen, flanks (or “love handles”), and the lower back. Liposuction is an effective procedure for both men and women.

Our surgeons use the most high-tech and effective liposuction technology available to remove areas of diet-resistant fat and tighten loose skin. Men tend to have thicker skin, which re-drapes nicely and allows for a procedure called Abdominal Etching, a great technique that can give you those 6-pack abs instantly. Pinnacle Plastic Surgery also utilizes both Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) and VASERlipo® in our practice.

Who's Eligible?

Candidates for Liposuction

Liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure but rather a body contouring procedure. To best target stubborn fat that is more resistant to diet and exercise, potential candidates need to be at a bodyweight where they are comfortable.

During your initial consultation, Drs. Klenke and Cazorla will customize your treatment plan. Our Pinnacle team can help decide what procedures are best for your body.

For men who have lost a lot of weight, sometimes we combine liposuction with a tummy tuck (link to tummy tuck) or a body lift (link to body lift). In other scenarios, we suggest the Exilis Ultra™, a great in-office, no-downtime option, or BodyTone, a non-surgical, in-office muscle toning device that uniquely strengthens, tones, and sculpts weakened muscle groups.

Liposuction FAQs

Tumescent fluid containing sterile solution, epinephrine, and a local anesthetic is used to hydrate the fat, making it easier to remove more gently with less trauma.

Most surgeries take 1-2 hours. This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you go home the same day.

Compression garments that can be worn under clothing are applied and are worn for several weeks after surgery, which helps reduce swelling and improve the final contour. Results improve every day as the swelling fluid is reabsorbed and removed by the body.

Resuming exercise is on a case-by-case basis but generally is avoided for a couple of weeks and slowly re-introduced after that.

Continuing a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a healthy, balanced diet is equally as necessary after the procedure. Gaining weight after liposuction does not mean it will be re-distributed to other areas of the body, which is a common myth. However, the fat cells that remain in your body after surgery can gain and lose volume.
