Brazilian Butt Lift Aftercare Guide: 5 Tips & Tricks

Just in time to make the best of summer bikinis and days on the shore, the Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is excellent for adding volume and shaping your best asset. A BBL can reduce fat in other areas of the body, while enhancing all the right curves. However, after your procedure, you may have some questions about aftercare and how to best maintain your jaw-dropping results.

The team at Pinnacle Plastic Surgery breaks down how you can take care of yourself, maximize your results, and achieve optimum comfort throughout your recovery period. If you have any questions about Brazilian butt lift recovery, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team.

Avoid Sitting

During your Brazilian butt lift, your surgeon will use liposuction to transfer fat from another area of your body into your buttocks for the perfect, plump peach. Because these fat cells need plenty of blood flow to get settled in their new location, it’s important to avoid sitting for 10-21 days after your procedure.

Sitting too early can limit blood flow to the transferred fat cells, impacting your results. If you have to sit, such as in a car, use a specially contoured cushion to move the pressure off your buttocks. While sleeping, lay on your side or your stomach to ensure proper healing. If you need to get work done while recovering, standing desks are a great option and are a BBL-approved work setup.

Don’t Stress About Swelling

After your Brazilian butt lift, swelling and inflammation are natural signs of your body healing. Most significant swelling subsides after six weeks, with full results becoming apparent around two months after surgery. To reduce swelling, you can apply ice packs or a cold compress, especially in the few days after your procedure.

If you notice excessive swelling or swelling that hasn’t dissipated after six weeks, we recommend you speak with your plastic surgeon. Additionally, look out for fever, swollen glands, or shakes and chills, as this could be a sign of infection. When in doubt—check with your provider about your specific recovery timeline and expected downtime.

Exercise to Boost Your Lift

The beginning stages of your recovery are the perfect time to take some much-needed R&R in the weeks following your Brazilian butt lift. However, we recommend exercising—once your doctor approves—to boost blood flow, strengthen your muscles, and add extra lift to your newly-formed buttocks.

Typically, you can begin low-impact exercises two to three weeks post-operation. We recommend taking light walks during this time to enhance blood flow. About six weeks after your BBL, most plastic surgeons will clear you for vigorous exercises, like running. Don’t worry if you get the go-ahead for exercise earlier or later than others since everyone heals differently.

Wear Your Compression Garment

While it may not be aesthetically pleasing, wearing your compression garment after your Brazilian butt lift is critical. It can provide support, minimize swelling, and reduce discomfort, so although it may seem like a nuisance, don’t underestimate its helpfulness.

Your provider will send you home with a compression garment and specific instructions. We recommend wearing it 23 hours daily during recovery for up to six weeks after your BBL. With the help of your compression garment, you’ll be turning heads on the beach in no time!

Take Care of Yourself

It may seem obvious, don’t forget to care for yourself during the healing process. Try and stick to a healthy diet full of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains during your recovery so you can feel your best and maintain a stable weight. If you have any significant weight shifts, it can cause the fat cells to move and gather in unwanted places.

We recommend you stay hydrated and avoid any food or drinks high in sodium. Sodium can cause water retention and won’t do you any favors while you’re trying to minimize swelling after your BBL. Also, steer clear of smoking for two weeks or more after your procedure. If you smoke, it can slow down healing and cause post-procedure complications.
